Saint Mary’s/Advantage Health Team Wins Two Awards at Race for the Cure
(September 28, 2009) - Thanks to everyone who came out on September 26, 2009 for Susan G. Komen Grand Rapids Race for the Cure.
Held for the 12th year in Grand Rapids, the parking lot of RiverTown Crossings Mall and its surrounding community was transformed into a five kilometer walk/running course for a record-breaking 6,300 race participants.
Out of these thousands of racers, Saint Mary’s/Advantage Health team stood out as the largest health care team with 251 participants, 16 of which were breast cancer survivors.
These large numbers garnered Saint Mary’s/Advantage Health team two major race awards–the largest healthcare team and the team with the most breast cancer survivors.
Raising thousands of dollars each year, Susan G. Komen Grand Rapids Race for the Cure donates 75 percent of the monies directly to the local community to help with breast cancer awareness, early detection and treatment assistance programs. The other 25 percent goes toward national research to help fight against breast cancer.
Special thanks to all of Saint Mary’s/Advantage Health team’s donors who helped us surpass our fundraising goal of $6,000. Not only have we won two awards for our huge supportive presence, but we are very proud to have raised so much money that will help breast cancer survivors and will aim to end breast cancer forever. |
