Clinical Career Path
Medical Assistant
Performs both clerical and clinical duties. Clinical duties
involve the responsibility for assuring patient flow, assisting
the registered nurse or physician in delivery of patient care
including obtaining and recording vital signs, necessary laboratory
results and preparing patient for examination.
- High School education or equivalent.
- Graduate of a recognized medical assistant program.
Ability to:
- Handle patient information in a confidential manner.
- Demonstrate positive customer service behavior as defined
in the SMMMC Core Competencies.
- Work independently and take initiative necessary to meet
essential functions of position.
- Communicate effectively in person, via telephone and
in oral and written form.
- Work with a team-oriented, cooperative atmosphere.
- Identify correct procedures and, when applicable, demonstrate
appropriate personal responsibilities in managing the following:
(a) Hazardous materials and waste.
(b) Work related injuries and hazards.
(c) Equipment operations and maintenance.
(d) Infection control/universal precautions.
